Name: August Reiss. Aug dog. Augie dog, the dog. Auggy doggy style, if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
Hometown: Maine, the way life should be. I went to college in Boston and that holds a place in my heart as well.
Currently Residing: Ocean Beach in San Diego, California
Favorite outdoor activity/hobby: Sailing. There's just nothing else like it.
Favorite place you have traveled: Nicaragua. It's not yet saturated with tourists like Costa Rica. The people are still interested in outsiders and are some of the most genuine I've come across. The landscape is amazingly gorgeous. Such an authentic and meaningful experience every time I am there.
Next trip planned: Back to Maine this summer for some sailing with old friends. After that southern Oregon and NorCal for a couple week road trip!!
Why you support Aloha for People: I believe that in our lifetimes water will become the most sought after commodity in the world. I was lucky enough to be born in the USA and have unlimited access to clean water. I know that too many others in the world are not that lucky. So many people die every day due to simple illnesses that are easily cured in the first world. Clean water is a necessity for life and I wish that all humans could have access to it. Aloha for People is taking a step in the right direction and providing water to children in need. And the shirts are sick! I always get compliments when I rock them.
Favorite Aloha for People pattern/shirt: The original Earth pattern, because it just has so much flavor! It seems so authentically Guatemalan!
Craziest thing you've ever done: I would have to say summiting Mount Whitney. I was invited to do the hike 4 days before the day we were supposed to start and I had no crampons, ice axe, or any of the right gear. It was one of those situations where we needed to completely respect the terrain, the weather and the mountain itself. It was one of the hardest things I've ever been through physically and reaching the summit was one of the proudest moments of my life so far.
Who/what inspires you: I am inspired by anyone who goes out on a limb for something they are passionate about and truly believe in. Sometimes it's hard to find the courage to take big risks in life, but I'd always rather regret doing something and knowing I gave it my all than regret sitting on my hands and wishing I had done something. Having the courage to do what your gut tells you to do is inspiring. It's always scary but life is boring without taking risks. 🤙
